Article: "The American Dog"

Working with many different clients (in and out of their homes) in different parts of the country has inspired our new column on the "American Dog." America has been deemed as "The Land of Opportunity" and "Land of Freedom and Fame." Whether it's the dream of the family home with a white picket fence, or a rustic cabin overlooking the powerful mountain terrain, or the beach cottage or condo; the American Dog has found himself in all types of situations and surroundings. While working with a vast amount of people, you could imagine the equations of personalities of the owners/dogs and their surroundings are endless.

"The American Dog" is devoted to our canine friends who find themselves in so many situations and types of adaptations in the times we live in. Millions of Americans love dogs and bring them into their homes, give them a wonderful life full of toys, treats and treasures. How come there are so many "problem dogs" in America? I get countless questions like, "Why does my dog behave this way when I give her everything she needs?" The answer is simple. Your dog does not view her world the way you do! Pampering your pet does not mean that he or she will love you for it!

The concept of "The American Dog" is to help owners across the country bring a balance into the home. A balance of boundaries, affections, training, companionship; this article is just the introduction. Further articles will include topics such as: dog selection, introduction, what to do when faced with problems, training, aggression, excess energy/hyper dogs, and many others.
